Thia Martin, Fine Artist & BFC Advisory Board Member, Amanda Gress, Fine Artist & Art Instructor, and Justine Sanchez, BFC Board President, joined forces once again in an outreach and education event for kids; Art for the Buffalo.

Buffalo Kids Art Camp July 2025

Kids Art Hard at Work

In 2019, this trio hosted a 4 month long art exhibit at the Boulder Museum and were excited to get back together in Thia’s home studio in Colorado to share the story of the Buffalo with kids and inspire them to create art with a message.

Amanda shares, “Art is a form of communication. So, we are teaching kids that they can use art for a voice and to make a difference.”

Thia agrees and adds, “The sooner we start educating the next generation about the bison, the sooner we can change this management plan.  It’s pretty easy to illustrate what’s going on through art, more so than words, because people look at pictures.”

Justine shared photos of wild bison at different stages of development so the kids could choose the age and sex of the Buffalo they were painting.  She also shared BFC’s 13 minute documentary short, Our National Mammal, and then answered questions.  The kids were super engaged and asked really thoughtful questions.
